Grape seed extracts have been claimed to lower cholesterol. But, the evidence is insufficient.  Vigna GB et al, found that their polyphenolic extract of grapes (Leucoselect-Phytosome [LP]) had no obvious modification of
total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) and LDL-C in their study of heavy smokers.

Prevent Cataract Formation By Taking Grape Seed Oil Extract

Grape seed extracts may promote wound healing. Khanna S and his group at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, demonstrated that grape seed proanthycyanidin extract alone was able to drive
vascular endothelial growth factor. Topical application of grape seed proanthycyanidin extract accelerated wound contraction and closure. Grape seed proanthycyanidin extract treatment was associated with a more well-defined hyperproliferative epithelial region, higher cell density, enhanced deposition of
connective tissue, and improved histological architecture.

Grape Seed Extract Can Help Prevent Prostate Cancer

Grape seed extract was shown to against prostate cancer. Same group from UC also found that grape seed extract possessed in vivo anticancer efficacy against hormone-refractory human prostate cancer, which was
associated with grape seed extract 's antiproliferative, proapoptotic and antiangiogenic activities together with up regulation of insulin-like growth factor binding protein. They also found that grape seed extract could induce apoptotic death of human prostate carcinoma DU145 cells via mitochondrial
damage and cytochrome c release in cytosol resulting in PARP cleavage.

Uses of Grape Seed Oil Extract: MEDICINAL BENEFITS

Historically european folk healers developed an ointment from the sap of grapevines to cure skin and eye diseases. Grape leaves were used to stop bleeding, inflammation, and pain, such as the kind brought on by hemorrhoids. Unripe grapes were used to treat sore throats and dried grapes (raisins) were used to heal consumption, constipation, and thirst. The round, ripe, sweet grapes, were used to treat a range of health problems including cancer, cholera, smallpox, nausea, eye infections, and skin, kidney, and liver diseases.

Grape seeds contain several antioxidants, including polyphenols, including proanthocyanidins, which show some health benefits. In particular, sufficiently high amounts of resveratrol occur that it can be extracted commercially. Antioxidants from grape skins and seeds are also found in products such as grape juice and red wine.

A 1993 study suggested that grape seed oil may increase HDL-C levels and reduce LDL levels.
